A well-known pass on the old main road between Ljubljana and Celje/Maribor, famous for its roadside doughnut shop (krofi). The pass is now largely bypassed by the motorway tunnel but the old road remains scenic.

A pass on the road from Most na Soči to Cerkno through the Bača valley. Part of the WWI Isonzo/Soča front supply routes, this road follows the picturesque Bača stream through a narrow forested valley.

Monte Ceneri Pass

Connects upper Ticino (Bellinzona) with lower Ticino (Lugano). Low but historically important pass. Now largely bypassed by the Monte Ceneri Base Tunnel opened in 2020.

The narrow gorge of the Salzach river between Golling and Werfen. A historically strategic narrows that controlled access to the inner Salzburg Alps. The modern road includes tunnels through the gorge.

The old road from the coast (Koper/Trieste) climbing up to the Karst plateau. Known for tight hairpins ascending the steep limestone escarpment separating the Mediterranean coastal strip from the inland plateau.

Col d'Èze

A legendary pass between Nice and Monaco, famous as the decisive time trial finish of the Paris-Nice cycling race from 1969 to 1995. Offers stunning views over the Côte d'Azur coastline.
